Course objectives
This subject is theoretically practical. Its conception comes from the profile of a bachelor midwife. The subject matter consists of basic philosophy and science aspects of midwifery, the elements which form the personality of a professional midwife. The target of the classes is to inform students about how to asses a client in health as well as in illness by particular theories and models (discussion, observation, information extraction from documentation) with a consideration of specific needs of individuals and families. Adequate response to problematic situations in the midwifery practice is taught in this subject. Learning outcomes – student is able to: - understand and define midwifery as a science discipline in context of other science disciplines; - define and know how to apply midwifery models and theories in practise; - orientate her/himself in management of quality of care; - explain importance of a science and research work for midwifery development;

Syllabus
  • Subject matter: - Midwifery as a science discipline, definitions, determination, holism as a midwifery philosophy, humanisation of midwifery, realisation of changes, holistically theories of illness origin; psychosomatic aspect of midwifery care; - Midwifery care models and theories; - Educational management in the Czech Republic and world-wide (comparison and compatibility of systems); - Competencies and responsibilities of midwives in health care system; - Professional organisations; - Introduction to multicultural and trans-cultural midwifery; - Science and research in midwifery;
