Course objectives
To offer the overwiev of symptoms, diagnostics, course and treatment of main groups of internal diaseases. To make students known with basic specificities of diseases in elderly.
Learning outcomes
the student will after the completion od the object symptoms, diagnostics and treatment of kidney diseases - symptoms, diagnostics and treatment of endocrine diseases including diabetes mellitus - symptoms, diagnostics and treatment of thermoregulation disturbances and physical damage - symptoms, diagnostics and treatment of comatose events - basic differential diagnostics - geriatric giants, multidsicplinary approach
Syllabus
  • 1st week Diaseases of kidney I. Examination methods in nephrology, glomerulonefritis, glomerulopathy, nefrotic syndrome, diabetic glomerulosclerosis. • Diseases of kidney II. Interstitial nefritis, pyelonephritis, urinary tract infections, tuberculosis of kidney, urolithiasis, vascular nephrosclerosis, polycystic kidney, renal failure. • 2nd week Metabolic disturbances I. Nutritional pathologie - obesity, undernutrition, changes in vitamin metabolism, inherited metabolic diseases. • 3rd week Metabolic disturbances II. Hyperlipoproteinemias, porfyrias, metal-metabolic diseases, metabolic bone diseases, amyloidosis. • 4th week Diseases caused by water-, mineral- and acidobasic disturbances. Basics of parenteral nutrition, enteral nutrition. • 5th week Endocrine glands diseases I. Hormons, regulations, dysfunctions, hypotalamohypophysal system diabetes insipidus, tumors of hypophysis. •6th week diabetes mellitus, acute and chronic complication 7th week Thyroid gland, anatomy, phasiology. Hypothyreosis, hyperthyreosis, tyroiditis, thyroid flanda tumors. Calciotropic hormons. Parathyroid glands. Suprarenal glands. • 8th week Urgent situations in internal medicine. Reasons for admission to ICU. Cardiopulmonary reanimation, most frequent mistakes. • Vigilance disturbances – coma. Acute and chronic intoxications, addiction. • 9th week Damage from physical sources. Hyperthermia, hypothermia, electricity injuries, drown, radioactivity damage. 10th week Differential diagnostics of unconsciousness, dyspnea, chest pain, abdominal pain, back pain, headache, artrhralgias.
