Course objectives
Disaster Medicine and Integrated Rescue System is a profiling theoretical and practical subject. Its aim is to prepare students, medical rescuers, both theoretically and practically for dealing with emergencies with a prevalence of medical issues in the pre-hospital and early hospital phase and for cooperation within the Integrated Rescue System.
Learning outcomes
The student will be able to: - triage the wounded using the START method, - solving model situations and practical activities with the use of dummies, during an emergency in the pre-hospital and hospital phase, - to practically deal with emergencies in the field from the perspective of a paramedic of the integrated rescue system and to use available medical resources.
Syllabus
  • Solution of model situations and practical training of individual activities with the use of figurants in the pre-hospital phase, solving model situations and practical training of individual activities with the use of mannequins in the pre-hospital phase, including the use of available medical devices. Training in medical triage using the Uniform Triage and Identification Card, training in lay pre-sorting START, participation in interoperability exercises of the integrated rescue system.

Assessment methods
Solving model situations, practicing triage and participating in a synergy exercise. Completion/credit: 100% class participation, preparation of a seminar paper on a topic related to disaster medicine, scope and topic to be assigned by the instructor.
