- Course objectives
- Surgery is essential medical field. The aim of the subject is to gain elementary knowledge in surgery. In frames of lectures and seminars stress is put on appropriate identification of the problems of the surgical patients causes, signs, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in selected, most commonly presented diseases, emergencies, shock conditions and trauma, which are basic pillar of the subject , and important aspect for understanding of the surgical patients needs.
The content of the studies will be targeted to basic and specific nurceing care in surgical patients (examination mathods, treatment procedures, pre-operative and post-operative care, education, special care of the drains, management of acute and chronic wounds and stomies). The part of the curriculum is understand contens of the work of the surgical department, out patient and bed care, its sequence and cooperation with General practitioners, and workplaces of other specialities.
Upon the completion of the course student will be able to identify the signs of particular diseases and in frames of his specialisation to therapeuticly intervene. Will be able, in acute conditions, to offer qualified first aid. The curriculum is conceived as deepening and expanding in relation to Magister studies contens. - Learning outcomes
- Student will be able to: - know basic knowledge in the field of surgery, - describe causes, symtomps, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the most frequently occuring diaseses and shock conditions; - explain an important aspect for understanding the needs of patients with a focus to intensive care; - define monitoring methods used in the surgery care. The student will also be able to: - describe specific aspects of nursing care for patients who have undergone: Thyroid surgery, Surgery gallbladder and biliary tract, Liver surgery, Gastroduodenal surgery, Surgery of the esophagus, Surgery of the pancreas and spleen, Surgery colon and rectum, Surgery mammary gland, Pelvic surgery, Surgery large vessels and/or Cardiac surgery, Surgery lungs and mediastinum, Minimally invasive surgery, Urology, Burns and others. - Explain basic components of rehabilitation in intensive care.
- Syllabus
- Preoperative patient preparation. Preoperative examinations, general training, psychological preparation, anesthesia, pre-treatment, premedication and its pharmacological components. Thyroid surgery. DM in surgical care. Surgery gallbladder and biliary tract. Liver surgery. Gastroduodenal surgery. Surgery of the esophagus. Surgery of the pancreas and spleen. Surgery thin, colon and rectum. Acute abdomen. Surgery mammary gland. Pelvic surgery. Surgery large vessels. Cardiac surgery. Surgery lungs and mediastinum. Highly specialized care for patients with gastrointestinal tract disorders and with stomies (abdominal, inflammatory and tumor diseases), clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment options, complications. Highly specialized care for patients with thoracic and thoracic cavity disorders (inflammatory and tumor diseases of thoracic cavity localization, lung and mediastinal injuries), clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment, complications. Nursing care of clients with these disorders, preoperative preparation, post-operative care. Specifics of highly specialized care for these patients.
