Course objectives
Biofysics forms theoretical base for almost all modern therapeutical and diagnostical medical devices. The main learning objectives of these practical sessions are: a development of the measurement and instrument use skills of students, the development of a scientific, effective, safe and efficient attitude to the use of biomedical devices, a healthcare practice oriented understanding of the biophysics principles directly related to the management of patients (which are the basis of many medical imaging and physiological monitoring techniques).
Syllabus
  • B>Praactical exercises on biophysics B> Introduction, regulations of practical exercises, laboratory safety rules, etc. An introduction to the theory of measurement.
  • Measurement of liquid viscosity. Measurement of surface tension of liquids
  • Eosin absorption curve. Spectrophotometrical determination of concentration of eosin. Refractometric determination of NaCl concentration.
  • Audiometry. Measurement of the blood presure. Ergometry.
  • Temperature measurement with a thermocouple. Measuring surface skin temperature with a thermistor. Measuring enviromental parameters (noise).
  • Haemolysis of erythrocyte suspension by therapeutic ultrasound. Measuring ionising radiation absorption.
  • Measuring the voltage and frequency of electric signals by the oscilloscope. Measuring skin resistance. Measuring tissue model impedance.
  • Measuring the cooling effect of the environment. Catathermometry. Measuring the illuminance, Luxmeter.
  • Contact and contactless thermography. Thermocamera and thermovision. Physiotherapy.
  • Electrodiagnostic, electrotherapeutic methods. Individual measuring of the ECG. Electrical excitability. Effect of the direct and alternating currents.
  • Advanced imaging methods. Ultasound – diagnostic and therapeutic usage. X-rays.
  • Credit test.

Assessment methods
Giving the cours-unit creditis conditioned by full atendance in the lessons, theoretical knowledges about tasks and protokols for all tasks made by the teachers instructions. Course is finished by the credit test,student must gain at least 50% points.
