Course objectives
At the end of lectures collection a student understands and interprets knowledge of the eye anatomy, cell structure and tissue histology and eye parameters. The student will be able to right define and to interpret terms connected with tunica fibrosa, tunica vasculosa, tunica interna, inner eye space, visual field, brain visual centers, blood and nervous supply, helping and protecting organs of the eyeball. Integral part of this subject is knowledge of eye embryology and inborn diseases.
Syllabus
  • Biochemistry of the ocular tissues, biochemical reactions in the retina, Rhodopsin and Iodopsin cycle, aqueous humor physiology, intraocular pressure, vascular and nervous systems of the eye and ocular adnexa, physiology of the lacrimal apparatus.
  • Embryology of the eye and its adnexa, congenital and developmental anomalies of the eye, basic genetic concepts and facts (Mendel's rules, types of heredity, polygenesis, heterogeny, eugenics).
