Course objectives
The subject is conceived theoretically. The aim is to acquire the basic professional terminology used in the field of nutrition, to get an overview of individual components of nutrients for practical use in terms of composition of foods, to select them and to make nutritional recommendations.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will understand the basic concepts of nutrition science with an emphasis on the energy needs of the organism, on the importance of basic nutrients including vitamins, minerals and trace elements; explains nutritional recommendations based on food groups and factors affecting human food choices.

  • Evolution of human nutrition.
  • Food choice : internal and external factors and the food environment.
  • Food - based guidelines - dietary recommendations.
  • Breast - feeding.
  • Energy intake and requirements.
  • Fluis in the diet.
  • Proteins: needs and sources.
  • Carbohydrates:needs and sources.
  • Fats: needs and sources.
  • Micronutrients ( minerals and vitamins :needs and sources.
