Students must have basic knowledge of anatomy and first aid. They should be able to react under the guidance of a teacher on sudden changes in the patient´s health status within their competencies according to the valid legislation. - Course Enrolment Limitations

- Course objectives
- The course is an introduction to the scientific field of nursing for students of the Dentistry program. Tuition is focused on the basic information how to take care of the patient (mobile - independent, immobile - dependent) in all age and period of life. Special attention will be paid on obtaining knowledge and skills in basic nursing interventions in clinical praczice and to fulfill basic patient´s needs in relation to the Maslow´s hierarchy and pyramid.
- Learning outcomes
- Students will be able after the completion of the course to render care in basic patient´s needs: - - in the area of cognitive goals they will be able to define nursing, holism and nursing care to define patient´s needs and nursing process as a way for fullfilement - in the area of psychomotor goals they will be able: to render care and satisfy basic patient´s needs in hygiene, feeding, excretion, breathing. - in the area of affective goals they will be able: to understand and accept the role of general nurse in multidisciplinary team
- Syllabus
- The subject Basics of Nursing is theoretical-practical. The aim is to acquaint students of the Faculty of Medicine (students of the Dentistry program) with the field of nursing, with nursing care and the possibilities of cooperation between doctor and general nurse.
- Through the course, students will gain knowledge and basic skills for the implementation and evaluation of basic nursing care and for the implementation of diagnostic and therapeutic activities that are in the competence of the general nurse, or in which the general nurse assists the doctor. First part - theory - 4 hours.

- The tuition is organised in special skills labo, students are trained in basic nursing skills in the environment simulated clinical practice.

- Demonstration and exercise of basic nursing skills in clinical environment under the supervision of nursing teacher (content of the tuition depends on type of unit, actual status of the patients and available prescribed interventions).

The course is taught each semester.
Information on the extent and intensity of the course: 12. - Teacher's information
- Credit is awarded if the student has completed all parts of the course (a four-hour seminar and twice clinical practice in the scope of 2 times 4 hours).
The seminar is preparation for clinical teaching.
Adjusting the student to the lesson,
theoretical-practical seminar: slippers (covers) and comfortable clothing, suitable for practical exercises (sitting, lying down),
clinical practice: white t-shirt/blouse/shirt, white medical trousers, white shoes with a firm heel suitable for a hospital environment, name tag (to be issued by the study department).
Students will receive more detailed information on clinical practice at the theoretical-practical seminar.
