Course objectives
To get acquainted with essential topics of high school chemistry to be prepared for the entrance exam of Medical Faculty Masaryk University.
Learning outcomes
Ability to pass the entrance tests of Medical Faculty Masaryk University successfully.

  • Atomic Structure. Mass of atoms and molecules. Substance Amount, Number of Particles. Gases, Avogadro’s Law. The Electron Configuration of Elements.
  • Periodic Table. Chemical Bonds. Electronegativity, Polarity. Intermolecular Forces. Naming Inorganic and Ionic Compounds, Polyatomic Ions. Chemical Quantities and Reactions.
  • Concentration of Solutions. Calculations.
  • Electrolytes. Acids and Bases. pH calculation, hydrolysis of salts. Oxidation-Reduction Reactions.
  • Reaction Rate. Chemical Equilibrium. Solubility, Properties of Inorganic Compounds.
  • Introduction to Organic Compounds. Bonds, Isomerism. Hydrocarbons, Arenes. Halogen Derivatives, Nitro Compounds.
  • Amines, Alcohols, Phenols, Thiols, Ethers, Aldehydes, and Ketones.
  • Carboxylic Acids, Hydroxy and Oxo Acids, Functional Derivatives of Carboxylic Acids. Heterocyclic Compounds.
  • Saccharides. Lipids. Steroids. Amino acids. Proteins. Enzymes.
  • Nucleosides, Nucleotides. DNA, RNA. Replication, Transcription, Translation.
