- Course objectives
- The course describes and explains the functioning of health care as a branch of the national economy in the Czech Republic and acquaints students with the economic functioning of health care providers in our country.
The aim is to:
a) orient students in the institutional structure of the sector and the essential legislation that defines it, including the status and role of the main players.
b) to indicate to students the breadth and depth of the problems they will encounter;
c) to arouse at least some deeper interest in further study of this highly relevant and promising field. - Learning outcomes
- Students will be able to:
- independently look up the current rules for determining the total amount of reimbursement, costs of care, and prices;
- orientate in the main cost items of the health facilities (HFs);
- compare and generally interpret data on the HFs' financial conditions; - describe the main principles of financial management of the HFs. - Syllabus
- 1. Methods of reimbursement. Price-setting negotiations.
- 2. The economy of a medical facility. Structure and nature of costs (expenditures) and revenues (incomes). Meaning of case-mix.
- 3. Financial management in a medical facility; estimates of future revenue, expenses, budgeting.
