Cíle předmětu

The students will:
- study different types of literary works (e.g. short stories, fables, poems, extracts from novels) and learn about the possibilities for using them in lessons;
- learn to design different types of activities for individual stages of work with a literary text;
- study the criteria for choosing an appropriate text for different age groups and levels;
- discover possibilities and potentials of extensive reading
- be provided with some theoretical background for using authentic literature in EFL classes
- be equipped with hands-on experience in developing and running a series of lessons based on literary texts appropriate for the age and level of their students
- reflect on their learning and teaching practice.

The students will be able:
- to use different types of literary works (e.g. short stories, fables, poems, extracts from novels) in lessons;

- understand the criteria for choosing an appropriate text for different age groups and levels;

Metody hodnocení

Presentations (face-to-face, online, Pecha Kucha), discussions, hands-on activities with reflections, independent work, project.
Course requirements:
Active participation in the lessons and in the discussions in moodlinka
A series of lesson plans (4 is minimum) based on one literary text - microteaching or extensive reading programme for a class at the primary school.

Náhradní absolvování

Students on study stays abroad can apply for the course, they will follow the instructions in Moodlinka, study the relevant materials, and work on the final project which they will submit after coming back to their home university.

- Contacting the teacher: Students can contact the teacher during the seminars or by e-mail, it is also possible to meet for face-to-face consultation. - Using AI: In the course, the use of AI is permitted for learning but not for cheating. It is acceptable to use AI to brainstorm ideas, perform basic proofreading, and make suggestions for improvement. It is unacceptable to have a text generated, translated, or reformulated. Remember to acknowledge all innovative ideas that are not yours. For generated ideas, use in-text citations. At the end of each assignment, state how you worked/did not work with AI. When you have a doubt, please consult your teacher. - Credit requirements: Upon successful completion of the course, you will earn 3 ECTS credits (2 credits for seminar work and self-study plus 1 credit for the colloquy). Each ECTS credit represents 25 to 30 hours of work. In the seminars, full-time students are expected to spend 26 hours, while combined students will spend 12 hours. The remaining 14– 24 hours for full-time students and 38–48 hours for combined students are allocated for self-study.
