Course objectives
The aim of the course is to get acquainted with the field of special education of visually impaired at the Bachelor's degree level, focusing on the impact of visual impairment on quality of life. Learning outcomes of the course unit will acquaint students with the possibilities of counseling and intervention for persons with visual impairment (VI) in individual age periods.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- Identify and summarize important areas of impaired vision on the quality of life of a person by age;
- identify and describe current possibilities of support, counseling and intervention with a focus on age;
- Describe the factors that influence the selection of special aids for managing independent living;
- Apply in practice basic recommendations for accompanying a person with visual impairment and recommendations for independent mobility of a person with severe vision impairment;
Syllabus
  • Special pedagogical diagnostics of vision. Compensatory aids for the visually impaired and work with them. The use of computer technology in the education of visually impaired students. Support for specific competencies of children and pupils with visual impairments. Orientation in space and independent movement of visually impaired people. Communication of visually impaired people - teaching Braille and its notation. Access to information. Counseling and intervention provided throughout the life of a visually impaired person. Combined disability. Deafblindness. Family of a child with severe visual and combined disabilities.
