Course objectives
Upon completion of the course the students will be able to explain the basic terms in the area of swimming, have good command of hygienic and safety principles of swimming, and be able to use them in practice. The students will be able to introduce non-swimmers to the water environment in a playful way, decrease their fear of water, define and apply the basic pre-swimming skills including cautious familiarization with the water environment as a basis for future training of various swimming styles in a suitable form and with regard to the peculiarities of teaching preschool children. Upon completion of the course the students will understand and be able to make use of healthy, efficient and environment-friendly stays in nature with a focus on specific health-preventive activities used in summer schools, especially all kinds of sports activities in nature.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course the students will be able to understand, explain and use the basic knowledge of physical education with a focus on pre-swimming preparation and water games; the students will be able to use the knowledge and skills in the development of physical abilities and skills in preschool children and will be able to rescue a drowning child. Upon completion of the course the students will be able to understand, explain and use the knowledge of outdoor tourism and stays in nature with a focus on health supporting physical activity. In a suitable way, the course combines individual topics by means of field education. The students will learn to organize contests and games.
Syllabus
  • 1-12: Basic swimming concepts, principles of hygiene and safety in swimming, preparatory exercises on dry land. Preliminary exercises and games for introduction to water and orientation in water, swimming and breathing into water. Falls and jumps into the water in a playful way, observing the principles of safety. Gradual and non-violent introduction to the kraul, sign and breaststroke movements of the legs and arms. Practice of interplay in a selected swimming method (kraul, sign, breaststroke). Principles of helping a tired swimmer, rescuing a drowning child. Course 3 days: principles of cultural and cognitive activities and ecological education, physical component of tourism, guidelines for preparation, organization and actual implementation of various forms of stay in nature with a focus on summer school in nature. Legislation related to nurseries in nature, first aid principles. Organisation of trips, orientation in nature and topography. Basics of canoeing.

Teaching methods
Semester-long practical training and a three-day tutorial course. Theoretical preparation, practical exercises, independent preparation and organization of competitions and games.
