Course objectives
At the end of this course students will be able to competently communicate with the legal representatives of the child and other institutions that care for preschool children (social workers, primary schools, police, special education care centers, clinical and counseling psychologist, pedopsychiatrist, etc.). Content and formal aspects of communication (nonverbal communication skills, verbal communication skills, theoretical foundations of interviewing) will be discussed in the course. There also will be a focus on practicing and analyzing specific situations (working with non-cooperating and unmotivated parents, communicating difficult topics, managing principles of ongoing cooperation, education, psychoeducation, etc.) The course will also focus on the analysis of the characteristics of institutions with which teacher can cooperate.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, students will: - have an overview of the specifics and tasks of institutions with which a kindergarten teacher can work - be able to use theoretical knowledge of communication and interviewing in teaching practice - be able to conduct a more competent dialogue with legal representatives and institutions working with the child
Syllabus
  • - Specifics and tasks of institutions working with children (social workers, elementary school, police, special education centers, clinical and counseling psychologist, child psychiatrist, etc.)
  • - theoretical basics of interviewing (process, setting, content and formal aspects of communication)
  • - conducting a motivational interview
  • - conducting an educational and psychoeducational interview
  • - communicating challenging information, discussing challenging topics
  • - specifics of communication with other institutions working with the child
