- Course objectives
- This weekly debating club will be entirely students' creation. In other words, a series of non-teacher-centred sessions where students are welcome to air their views on a variety of controversial issues of postmodern life. Discussions will be conducted by volunteer students with responsibility to prepare a week ahead readings related to the topic (newspaper articles, videos, reviews, statements, statistics, etc) to give participants basic information and allow them to respond to the material. As a result, students should not only enhance their fluency in English but also learn to paraphrase, listen to other people's ideas and, in turn, to communicate their ideas more cogently and effectively.
- Syllabus
- Suggestions for topics are welcome. Tentatively, they could include Abortion; Death of God and Rise of Irrationality; Like Vampires -- lives of gay and lesbian people in Czech society; Animal rights; Multiculturality: 21st century challenge to Czech xenophobia, etc.
