Course goals: - explore American literature written in English since the days of the first colonies to the beginning of the 20th century - become familiar with recent academic literature concerning the period - learn to comment on literature via reading journals - get ideas how to use simplified literary texts in your ELT classes

Metody hodnocení
Course requirements: - Regular attendance and participation in all classes. - Completion of all written work that is to be submitted for grading. The test must be done on the assigned date; for written assignments, the late penalty is 1 point per day to a maximum of 7 days. A medical certificate or equivalent document must be presented if the test is missed or an assignment is handed more than 7 days late. - Reading journal is based on your reading from anthologies (paper or on-line versions, your choise). By Sunday each week, a 15-line entry shall be sent to the instructor, commenting on a text which is related to the last weeks topic but which was not included in your reader. - Participation is based in part on random in-class short writen assignments which will be given out and completed in the course of a single class lecture. - For Book review and Final project see the moodlinka, and/or attend the first class.
