Course objectives
Evaluation of maps as basic most complex sources of geographical information about territories. Specification of school maps. Methods of contents interpretation of general geographical maps and thematic maps of middle and small scales. Elementary tasks and methods of cartographic analysis of informative values of maps in geography studies and teaching.
Syllabus
  • 1. Atlases, characteristicsand usage in geography
  • 2. The classification of atlases
  • 3. Conceptual solutions and project preparation of the creating of atlases
  • 4. The solutions of the particular categories and types of atlas maps in term of contents, scales, cartographical projection and methods of cartographical interpretation
  • 5. The solution of the structure of atlas, of the choice of territory and determination of the excision and succesion of maps
  • 6. The particularities of the project preparation of the thematical maps and atlases
  • 7. The collaboration of cartographers, geographers and future users during the determination of the contents of atlas
  • 8. The methodics of the optimal usage of geographical informations displayed in atlas
  • 9. The analysis of geographical informations in the national atlases
  • 10. The survay and specification of the scholar geographical atlase
