Course objectives
The lecture is covering some selected chapters on significant periods of and major writers of the world literature.
Syllabus
  • 1. Old Egypt, Babylonia, Arab, India and China literatures 2. Old Greek literature 3. Old Rome literature 4. European literatures in the early Middle Ages 5. Early Renaissance literature 6. Epic and drama in the Renaissance period 7. Classicism – hierarchy of the genres, representatives 8. World literature before the French revolution 9. The beginnings of the modern novel 10.Literature on the period of Sentimentalism 11.Romanticism in the world literature 12. Realism, major writers and works of the 19th century 13. Development of the world realistic novel 14. European literatures at the beginning of the 20th century 15. European literatures after the WW2
