Course objectives
The seminar focuses on the interpretation of selected works from the Czech poetry and prose in the years 1918-1945. In the form of a seminar, students will use and develop their knowledge of basic trends and movements of Czech literature of the period in question. They will be able to identify and analyze the style of outstanding personalities fo Czech poetry and prose, significant for that particular period. Students will further develop their literary knowledge and interpretational skills with the aim to communicate with a literary work more effectively.

  • 1. General introduction to the interpretation of a literary work. 2. Interpretation of selected pieces of poetry. 3. Interpretation of selected pieces of prose.

Teaching methods
In the form of a seminar, students will use and develop their knowledge of basic literary trends and movements of Czech literature in the period in question. They will be able to identify and analyze the style of outstanding personalities fo Czech poetry and prose, significant for that particular period. Students will further develop their literary knowledge and interpretational skills with the aim to communicate with a literary work more effectively. They will creatively use their knowledge gained not only in contact classes but also in their individual study of recommended literature which they will be able to discuss regularly with their teacher.
Assessment methods
Type of course: seminar. Type of completion: credit. Credit requirements: oral presentation and active participation (max. 3 nonattendances).
