Course objectives
At the end of this course, students should be able to find the particularities of folk culture in specific areas of Czech Republic and to discern the main differences between the folk songs there. They should be able to apply these konowledges to singing and educational activities.
Syllabus
  • Basic informations about folk music and folk songs in Czech Republic. Main topics: traditional folk culture, folklore, collections of folk songs in Czech Republic, types of folk songs in Bohemia and Moravia, interpreter of folk songs and folk music.
  • Two basic types of folk songs in Czech Republic.
  • The types of folk songs in different areas of Bohemia and Moravia.
  • Collections of bohemian and moravian folk songs.
  • Traditional culture, regional aspect.
  • Interpreter of folk songs and folk music.
  • Listening to music recording, singing of folk songs.

Lectures. Class discussion.
Assessment methods
Lectures, presentation of folk songs, folk music, pictures and maps, collections of folk songs, class discussion. Requirements for credit: Oral project (different subjects: knowledges about folk music in specific regions and their practical presentation, interpreter of folk songs and folk music, activities of folklore ensembles etc.). Theoretic essay could be completed with practical ilustrations (singing, listening to music, video).
