Course objectives
In this course the student will acquire a theoretical and practical knowledge about the communication forms of the deaf and hard of hearing people and also about their using; the student will know the basic rules and principles of communication with persons with hearing handicap; the student should be able to understand and use actively the fingerspelling (with one and two hands); the student will be able to use sign language in communication with the deaf people - in basic topics, for example meeting deaf people, family etc.; the student will be able to use emphatic mimicry and gesticulation; the student will understand the meaning of and need of the lip reading and will recognize their difficulty; the student will know the specifics of the written text by deaf and hard of hearing and the specifics of their spoken language.
Syllabus
  • Practical teaching methods of sign language, another special ways of communication, special terminology - hearing impairment, sign language, gesticulation, symbols, mimicry (face-play), dactylology, written form of communication, speech, visually kinetic, fingerspelling, lip reading, development of sign vocabulary, interpreting services, basic instruction for contact between hearing and non-hearing person, principles and working methods.
