- Course objectives
- The main objective of the course is to develop speaking, reading, writing and listening skills at the Upper-Intermediate Level. The basic study material is the coursebook New English File Upper-Intermediate supplemented by various additional materials. At the end of the course students should be able to: discuss everyday topics, communicate in everyday situations, read and listen to authentic texts at the Upper-Intermediate Level and communicate in the language fluently.
- Syllabus
- The basic study material is the coursebook New English File UPPER-INTERMEDIATE (Student's book and Workbook), see Literature bellow. The syllabus includes Units 3 - 4, the focus is on speaking and listening activities and development of students' vocabulary.
- 1st lesson: Introductory activities, revision
- 2nd lesson: Unit 3A: Crime and punishment, passive voice
- 3rd lesson: Unit 3B: Consolidation test (Units 1 and 2) Weather, future perfect and future continuous
- 4th lesson: Unit 3C: Taking a risk, conditionals and future time clause,
- 5th lesson: Unit 3C: Expressions with likely and probably
- 6th lesson: Unit 3: Colloquial English, Revise and Check
- 7th lesson: Progress test 3 Unit 4A - Feelings, unreal conditions
- 8th lesson: Unit 4B, Verbs often confused, past modals
- 9th lesson: Unit 4C: The body, verbs of senses
- 10th lesson: Unit 4: Revise and check revision

- lectures, class discussion, pair work, group work, brainstorming, individual assignments
- Assessment methods
- Students have to pass 2 short credit tests (70%) focused on the vocabulary and grammar covered during the term,and only then can they sit the final oral exam proving their overall grammar and vocabulary knowledge (70%) at the end of the term. Students have to prepare for lessons throughout the whole term and do homework for each lesson, which is the base for their active participation in the seminars. They have to do a presentation, contribute to the fora in moodlinka course and work regularly on exercises posted there. Most of the work is based on students' self-study.
