Prerequisites
Presupposed are German knowledge on the level C1 of the European reference framework: "Can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognise implicit meaning. Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices."

Course objectives
The group will be divided into two parts, each is taught by an other lector. In the summer-semester, the lectors will change. The topics a different, according to the lector. Lector Reitbrecht:
At the end of the seminar the students should be able to express themselves in a better german. The seminar is a mixture of (technical) language teaching and working with regional themes. Methodologically, the seminar is based on the idea of cross-cultural studies and the ABCD-Theses. The aim of the seminar is to look critically and comprehensively at individual cultural phenomena, and to integrate language work.
The topics are presented as examples or comparative for Austria, Germany and Switzerland processed. By the use of authentic sources, different views are shown and simultaneously the students improve their language proficiency.
Lector Sorger:
At the end of the course students should be able to solve the final language test in the summer semester. A goal of the seminar is it to prepare for this examination test. The active and rezeptiven competences are to be trained and also the test format is to be learned. Linguistic, soziolinguistische and intercultural authority is promoted indirectly on the basis the worked on materials. As orientation for the final examination test format serves (for example: Zentrale Mittelstufenprüfung (ZMP/C1), TELC Zertifikat Deutsch C1, ÖSD-Oberstufe Deutsch/C1, ÖSD-Wirtschaftssprache Deutsch/C2, u.ä.
Syllabus
  • Topics lector Reitbrecht:
  • Instruction contents are opened to a large extent on the inductive way, over process and problem oriented entrance. With the help of the contrastive view for cultural differences students should be sensitised for intercultural understanding. The subjects of the course will be recent phenomena in the German language and German as a pluricentric language, media in the German speaking countries and city developpement and aspects of urban life in Vienna.

  • The teaching hours will be used to train for the exam, all test tasks are wored out, trained and appropriate strategies are discussed. Writning will be trained by homework. Takling ist trained by an oral presentation, which ist to be held or at least prepared. Vocabulary and grammar should only be addressed indirectly. Depending on the starting level some self-study is expected.
