In the compulsorily-optional English for Social Educators A, the students will consolidate their language skills from secondary school, and will learn some selected academic skills (oral presentation, supporting an argument ) in English. Successful students will be credited for active participation in the lessons, for oral and written presentations and for passing the Credit Test at the end of the semester. - Course Enrolment Limitations

- SV4BP_1AB1 Angličtina pro sociální pedagogy A Weeks 1-3 Topic 1 Education in the CR and the UK. Tertiary education. Texts on education, similarities and differences, universities Study skills – discussion based on experience, expressing opinion, making a statement, Academic skills – key words, summarizing, basic reading techniques, mini-presentation Assignments – Reading Comprehension Sheet 1 (standardized layout: key words, summary, opinion), long-term task – create your own topic based vocabulary Grammar - revision of present simple+present continuous, past simple+continuos, prepositions of time and place Weeks 4-6 Topic 2 Psychological development. Growing up with focus on adolescence. Texts on stages of life and personality development Study skills – opinion exchange, personal experience, reflection based on notes, role play Academic skills – critical thinking, note taking Grammar – present perfect simple+continuous, future Assignments – topic based vocabulary Week 7 Mid-term TEST Revision of vocabulary and grammar studied in Weeks 1-6 Weeks 8-10 Topic 3 Interpersonal relationships. Who knows you better? Texts on friendship, family relationship, partnership Study skills – giving and supporting arguments, comparing similarities and differences, picture description Academic skills –- summarising, key words, expressing opinion - revision and enhancement Grammar – adjectives – personal qualities, comparatives, superlatives, Assignments – reading comprehension sheet 2, topic based vocabulary Weeks 11-12 Topic 4 Non-verbal communication. Body language. Texts on importance of non-verbal communication Study skills – discussion, opinion exchange, supporting arguments Academic skills dialogues and arguments Grammar – modals Assignment – describe your picture, topic based vocabulary Week 13 Credit Test The student who has not completed continuous assessment during the particular semester can not be credited! (Student, který nemá splněné průběžné úkoly z jednotlivých témat v rámci daného semestru, nemůže získat kredity, ani zápočet!)
