Course objectives
The course objective is to introduce students to the evolution of literary genres: it pays special attention to the evolution of novel and to the ontology and typology of drama. Students will get an insight into literary trends and movements of Czech literature and relate them to the specific nature of their poetics. They will be able to analyze the style of outstanding personalities, significant for that particular period. They will be able to use literary terminology with precision.

Novel - gothic 7. Changes of the novel in the era of Romanticism 8. “New Novel“ 9. Drama – comparison to lyrics and epics (different depiction methods) 10.Text of the Drama – paralinguistic and extra linguistics elements of the drama 11. Dialogue building – basic types, remarks - functionality 12. Drama composition 13. Basic features and changes – classicist drama, romantic drama, realistic drama 14. Model drama, absurd drama 15. Changes of the absurd drama, post modern features in the drama

Teaching methods
Students will further develop their literary knowledge and interpretational skills with the aim to communicate with a literary work more effectively. They will creatively use their knowledge gained not only in contact classes but also in their individual study of recommended literature which they will be able to discuss regularly with their teacher.
Assessment methods
Credit requirements: active participation at lectures, colloquium – discussion of the topics covered in lectures.
