- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students should be able to: (1) understand and explain basic terms concerning zoogeography; (2) distribution of animals on Earth; (3) name sufficient number of examples of animals inhabiting palearktic, nearktic; (4) african, oriental; (5) australian, neotropic; (6) antarktic region.
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction: definition, contens, general x systematic zoogeography, general terms
- 2. Biocycles, biochores of terrestrial biocycle
- 3. Distribution ranges: definition; ways of depiction, holoareal, euareal, epiareal; endemite x kosmopolite, sympatry x alopatry
- 4. Geoelements, natural and anthropogenic changes of ranges.
- 5. Zoogeographical division of Earths surface: segmentation of particular biocycles (incl. marine biocycle) - zoogeographical regions
- 6. Segmentation of palearktic region
- 7. Zoogeography of the Czech Republic
- 8. Dynamical zoogeography: faunistic element, glacial refugia, glacial relict
- 9. Comprehensive characteristics of particular zoogeografical regions: palearktic, nearktic, african, oriental, australian, neotropic a antarktic.

- workshop: lectures together with class discussion, presentations of individual projects

- Students will prepare ppt-presentations containing comprehensive characteristics of particular zoogeografical regions: palearktic, nearktic, african, oriental, australian, neotropic a antarktic.
