- After completing the course the student is able to identify and describe the basic phenomena related to Russian realities and culture, to interpret them and to understand the relations between them.
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction - basic geographic information, the most important milestones of Russian history compared to the Czech / European context, the Russian national character, the contemporary Russian societ
- 2. Religion - Adoption of Christianity in Russia, the influence of Christianity on culture and everyday life, Russian Orthodox Church, the most significant Orthodox temples in Russia, iconographers and icons (A. Rublev, F. Grek), Comparison of Orthodoxy with Catholicism
- 3. Russian folklorology - mythology and Russian fairy tales, legends, applied art and traditional crafts (matrjoška, chochloma, gžel a další), traditional musical instruments
- 4. Russian holidays and traditions - folk, religious and national holidays, traditions and customs (Maslenica, New Year, Easter and more)
- 5. Nations of Russia - Traditions, customs and religion of nations and ethnicities living in the territory of Russia, traditional clothes and kitchens, living space and the current state
- 6. Significant representatives of Russian culture - Musorgskij, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Prokofiev, painters Kandinsky, Malevich, Chagall and others, Djagilev and Russian seasons

- Teaching methods
- Course participants are acquainted with the basic features of Russian culture, national character, folklore and everyday life, with traditions and customs. The presentation focuses on highlighting the links between phenomena and is accompanied by rich visual, audio and video material. Students are also acquainted with important pieces of art, literature or music that reflect the phenomena. During the semester, listeners work with the interactive curriculum, which serves as the main study course material.

- Written test with closed and open questions, 70% of correct answers is need to pass.
