- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to acquainted student with basic knowledge concerning specific learning disabilities (SLD), its etiology and current supportive measures taken during education of students with SLD. Contemporary approaches to education in individuals with SLD at elementary and grammar school will be presented, with an emphasis on the development of student´s personality. Within the course contemporary remediation methods will be discussed in connection with dyslexia, dysgraphia, difficulties in grammatical rules implementation, dyscalculia, dyspraxia and possibilities of compensation. Student acquires basic terminology of specific learning disabilities and contemporary approaches implemented in education of individuals with SLD.
- Learning outcomes
- After the course, student will be able to: define general terminology in specific learning disabilities; describe characteristics of specific learning disabilities; understand the educational system for students with specific learning disabilities; define services provided by counsellor organizations; describe general approaches in education of students with specific learning disabilities.
- Syllabus
- Specific learning disabilities terminology and characterization (dyslexia, dysgraphia, difficulties in grammatical rules implementation, dyscalculia, dyspinxia, dysmusia, dyspraxia). Etiology of SLD. Characterization of Minimal brain injury, ADD and ADHD. Weakened sensory and neurological functions, SLD screening. Detection of student with SLD in mainstream classroom, exploration in mainstream classroom. Diagnostics of SLD. Educational system for students with SLD in the Czech republic. Educational legislation in the Czech republic. Assessment of students with SLD. Education of students with SLD in mainstream schools and grammar schools. Adulthood and SLD. Personality of individual with SLD (emotions, motivation, will, communication, socialization). Basic information about remediation care.

- Active participation during lectures. Attendance at least 80 %. Submission of annotation of publication concerning any of syllabus topics. Exam = written test. For successful completion - at least 75 % of correct answers is required.
