- Course objectives
- Students learn the basic concepts of sociolinguistics, they understand the relationship between language and society and are capable to explain the role of social factors in human communication, as well as the social importance of linguistic variability.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course, students will be able: 1. to define basic terms of sociolinguistics; 2. to describe the relationship between language and society; 3. to explain the role of language as an integral part of communication of the society.

- 1. Basic terms of sociolinguistics; 2. Pragmatism; 3. Language as an integral part of human communication; 4. Stratification of language - place and social functions of language; 5. Language culture; 6. The standard spoken and written language and its social function in communication; 7. Maintenance and changes of language norms in society; 8. Gender on language; 9. Relationship codification, standards and varieties; 10. Language rights and policy; 11. Bilingualism, minorities and majoritys; 12. Politeness and Interaction.

- Assessment methods
- For successful completion of the course must be: 1. comply written test, where students are free answers the questions. The test is evaluated; 2. final project seminar - essay on a given topic; 3.
