- Course objectives
- Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the course is to deepen students' knowledge of hearing disorders and methods of surdopedic diagnostics, acquire detailed information about objective and subjective hearing tests, comprehensive examination, possibilities of cooperation of special pedagogue with other specialists - phoniatrist, ENT physician, psychologist and neurologist. The course also includes information reflecting current legislative conditions for provision of counseling services in schools and school counseling facilities, in other facilities that perform special pedagogical diagnostics of deaf people. There will be discussed the possibilities of correction of auditory defects and the use of auditory prostheses and tools used to evaluate the benefits of these compensatory aids.
- Learning outcomes
- Orientation in the possibilities of diagnosing hearing impairments at an early age, in the period of preparation for compulsory school attendance and vocational training for children and pupils with hearing impairment; the ability to discuss the appropriateness of assigning an individual with hearing impairment to the appropriate facility, according to available information; orientation in the possibilities of auditory prostheses and in rehabilitation procedures in hearing impaired individuals.

- Diagnostic methods and techniques used in surdopedic practice - evaluation and interpretation of the results of objective hearing tests. Diagnostic methods and techniques used in surdopedic practice - behavioral methods, evaluation and interpretation of the results of subjective hearing tests. The importance of differential diagnostics and interdisciplinary collaboration in the diagnostic process. Tools for assessing the auditory perception and language skills of children with hearing impairment at an early age. Diagnostic tools and procedures used in the diagnostic process in children with hearing impairment at pre-school age, interdisciplinary cooperation. Diagnostic tools and procedures used in the diagnostic process for pupils with hearing disability in school age, interdisciplinary cooperation. Diagnostic tools and procedures used in the diagnostic process for pupils with hearing disabilities in middle school age, adolescence, interdisciplinary cooperation. Functional illiteracy - Reader reading comprehension, reader skills assessment.

The student prepares a case study of a child, pupil or student with a hearing impairment in the range of about 2-3 pages of A4 format, which will reflect the possibilities of early diagnosis and subsequent care of a person with a diagnosed hearing defect in the Czech Republic.
