... to summarize according to which characteristics it is possible to determine woody plant species
... choose a suitable determination literature
... compile an overview of the determination features of the selected tree species - Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course students will be able to...

... determine selected tree taxa according to a simple key
... decide whether selected woody taxa are native or no - Syllabus
- The course consists of four separated excursions, during which will be clearly shown signs by which it is possible to identify the selected woody plants of the following families. Overview of discussed families: Class: Pinopsida; Families: Pinaceae, Cupresaceae, Taxaceae.
- Class: Magnoliopsida; Family: Magnoliaceae.
- Class: Rosopsida; Families: Ranunculaceae, Berberidaceae, Platanaceae, Buxaceae, Fabaceae, Rosaceae, Ulmaceae, Moraceae, Fagaceae, Betualceae, Juglandaceae, Celastraceae, Salicaceae, Aceraceae, Hippocastanaceae, Tiliaceae, Hydrangeaceae, Cornaceae, Oleaceae, Araliaceae, Viburnaceae, Sambucaceae, Caprifoliaceae. During the excursions, students will also try to determine woody plants species according to various identification aids.

The course is taught annually. - Teacher's information
- The theory of this course is discussed in the course Dendrology for Basic Education, which is taught during the autumn semester. Dendrological excursions therefore serve to consolidate and practice this knowledge in determining woody plants species in the field. It is not a condition to complete Dendrology for basic education first and only then Dendrology excursions. The course consists of four separated excursions focused on learning about woody plants in winter, early spring and spring (approximately one excursion every month). To obtain the credit it is necessary to participate in at least three of them and submit notes from these exkursions. The first two walks will be realized individually (see below). If it will be possible, the last two walks will be realized at the end of the semester. Please book for these two walks Friday 30.4. and 14.5. from 8 am to 10:30 am Individual fulfillment of exkursions: You will realize two exkursions by yourself (to the countryside around your residence, to a park, a botanical garden or an arboretum). You will take at least 6 woody plants on each walk, you will identify these trees and name them correctly. You will then create a report from your walk, which should include a brief description of the area where the walk took place. Furthermore, photographs of 6 woody plants, the Czech and scientific name of the woody plant and also according to what you determined it (overview of license plates). Photos and text must be your own (not taken from the Internet - such a message would not be accepted). From internet sources, I recommend the portals Botanická fotogalerie and Pladias (you will find the current valid name of plants in Czech and Latin, there are also scanned pages from Květena ČR, in which each genus is keys and a description of individual taxa). There are several keys to determining tree species: 1) The key to determining trees by Dominika Dobrylovská is suitable for beginners, but contains 123 species hhttps: //www.knihydobrovsky.cz/kniha/klic-k-urcovani-stromu-123-nejbeznejsich-stromu-v-cr-72420? gclid = EAIaIQobChMIvKS7oY3-7gIVZUiRBR3SbwCfEAQYBCABEgIrAP 2) Tree and shrub trees of forests and open landscapes of the Czech Republic by Jiří Pikula - the book combines an atlas and several subkeys. It is great for those interested in woody plants publication, but contains outdated nomenclature and some terms from morphology plants in it are not used properly. But if you check the nomenclature with Pladias, then I can only recommend her. https://www.knihydobrovsky.cz/kniha/stromove-a-kerove-dreviny-lesu-a-volne-krajiny-ceske-republiky-599498?utm_medium=product&utm_source=zbozi.cz&utm_term=599498 3) The Key to May in the Czech Republic is a publication intended for university students of biology focus. https://www.academia.cz/klic-ke-kvetene-ceske-republiky--kaplan-zdenek--academia--2019 Each record of the walk must be stored in the delivery room in the IS. Delivery offices will be open until 21.3. and 11.4. If you are studying in a shortened semester and need to have the course completed by 20.4. contact the teacher.
