- Course objectives
- Students deepen and systematize knowledge from the area of word-making and syntactic. They will learn the basic theories and will be able to explain the etymological origin of the New Bohemian names of the cultural and historical realities in the basic vocabulary circuits. They will learn the development of the Czech language in connection with the development of the Indo-European and Praslovian languages, especially on the lexical level.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course, students will be able: 1. to explain the etymological origin of the modern Czech words concerning culturally historical features in the basic areas of vocabulary (family, society, housing, eating habits, clothing, hygiene...); 2. to understand the development of Czech in the context following the Indo-European and Proto-Slavonic developments, especially in their lexical stage; 3. to define the object of interest of cognitive linguistics and to explain its methods, using chosen findings related largely to the Old Czech vocabulary.

- 1. Medieval society in the Old Czech vocabulary; 2. Family and family affairs in the Old Czech vocabulary; 3. Housing, dwelling in the Old Czech vocabulary; 4. Clothing and eating habits in the Old Czech vocabulary; 6. Hygiene in the Old Czech vocabulary; 7. Offensive words, verbal aggression; 8. Time perception in Middle Ages and related lexicon; 9. Colours not only in the Old Czech vocabulary.

- A lecture combined with subsequent discussions on the professional issues of the course.
- Assessment methods
- For successful completion of the course must be: 1. comply written test, where students are free answers the questions. The test is evaluated; 2. final project seminar - essay on a given topic; 3. Study of suggested literature. Detailed requirements are available in each term in Study Materials of the course in the Information System MU, the folder Learning Materials.
