- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students will have basic knowledge about history of mathematics. They will have gained some ideas of how to use it in mathematics classes.
- Learning outcomes
- Successful graduates will be aware of major periods of the development of mathematics.
- Syllabus
- Topics of the lectures: Origins of mathematis Mathematics in Egypt and Orient. Greec mathematics, first crises Mathematics in Middle Ages. Origin of Calculus, second crisis mathematics in the 19th century. Third crisis. Some well-known mathematicians Reading: Křišťan z Prachatic: Algorismus prosaycus Alcuin: Propositiones ad Acuendos Juvenes (selection) Problems of Ancient Egyptian mathematics (bread and beer tasks, fractions) Various definitions of a limit Practical mathematics textbooks

- Lecture, seminar with active participation of the students, homework (reading) and seminar paper on a given topic.

- Assessment of reading notes. Colloquium on the basis of discussion of the seminar paper.
