- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to empower students competences in evidence based approach to the education of individuals with special educational needs. The emphasis will be given on behavior difficulties, intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorders in the period of elementary and upper secondary education (in an inclusive and special school system).
- Learning outcomes
- • Student is competent and has evidence based approach to educational proccess of individuals with SEN – mainly in the behavioral difficulties/disorders, mild intellectual disabilties and autistic spectrum disorders,
• based on the acqured knowledge the student knows strategies for teaching target group,
• student will be able to define indiviudal EN and apply special educational strategies aimed to support and empowering competences in the target group. - Syllabus
- Behavioral difficullties/disorders:
- 1. Behavioral difficulties/disorders and its dynamics. Identification of the behavioral difficulties and disorders in the childhood.
- 2. Etiology of behavioral disorders. Risk and protective factors – theory of resilience.
- 3. School and classroom mangement (school and classroom rules, climat, team work.
- 4. Case work on individual level – coping strategies for aggression in the classrooom, contracting, communication in the classroom, communication with the parents.
- 5. Early identification at-risk children, assessment and intervention.
- Education of pupils with slight mental disadvantage and disorders of autistic spectrum
- 1. Educational needs of pupils with slight mental disadvantage and disorders of autistic spectrum, terminology starting point.
- 2. Personal specifics of the pupils with slight mental disadvantage and disorders of autistic spectrum influencing educational process, specifics of cognitive processes and variability in development peculiarities.
- 3. Didactic principles, methods, forms and resources in education of pupils with slight mental disadvantage and disorder of autistic spectrum.
- 4. Methodology specifics of initial reading and writing in the education of pupils with slight mental disadvantage and disorders of autistic spectrum.
- 5. Strategy in the learning of pupils with slight mental disadvantage and disorder of the autistic spectrum in the inclusive and segregated environment of primary and secondary schools.
