- Course objectives
- Students will become familiar with various methods and forms of working with language materials and with using texts in teaching composition and literary education at elementary schools. They will be able to assess the idea of including composition in coursebooks and creating their own composition exercises. The literary-educational component of the course includes selected examples of methodical approaches while working with literary texts. The students will be able to create professionally correct and methodically whole teaching unit (objectives, contents, methods, forms of work).
- Learning outcomes
- Students will in the seminars focused on the didactics of language teaching: - gain the ability to prepare for a class (including the motivation and feedback), choose appropriate methods and forms of work, prepare additional materials, texts for practising stylistic skills, appropriate text for curriculum elicitation, didactic games, etc.; - think about the appropriate topics for essays; - learn to correct written and oral shortcomings of their pupils; - be able to compare different types of coursebooks and competently discuss their concepts. Students will in the seminars focused on the didactics of literary teaching: - acquire the possibilities of using various methods and forms of education for different types of classes of literary education; - apply a basic variety of traditional and activation methods and forms while taking into account the specifics of the content and conditions of the education.
- Syllabus
- Czech language: 1. The educational content of teaching composition at elementary schools. 2. Methods and forms of teaching composition, the organization of the lesson. 3. Types of composition-teaching lessons. 4. Preparing a composition-teaching lesson. 5. Motivation, feedback. 6. Additional materials: texts for the elicitation of curriculum, didactic games. Topics of essays and correcting errors of the students’ speech and composition. 8. Teaching individual thematic fields – students‘ output and its analysis. 9. Comparison of different types of coursebooks, discussions regarding their concepts. Literary education: 1. Complex methodical preparation for the lesson of literary education, relationships of objectives, content and methods of the lessons. 2. Application of traditional and alternative literary education teaching methods. 3. Forms of organization in literary education, methods and forms of work supporting the direction of teaching literary education in order to develop the key competencies, literary creativity in teaching literature. 4. Sample methodical approach to work with selected epic text. 5. Sample methodical approach to work with selected lyrical text. 6. Sample methodical approach to working with selected dramatic text.
