Prerequisites
Knowledges of standards of Russian transcription, knowledges of Russian phonetic system (vowels, consonants, vowel reduction, paired soft and hard consonants).

Course objectives
Students deep their knowledge of the phonetic system of Russian. Seminars are focused on a pronunciation practice, explanation of errors and remove errors associated with a poor pronunciation of particular sounds and particular words. Seminars are focused too on a correct articulation process of vowels and consonants (Russian in comparison to Czech). Attention is paid to the pronunciation of borrowed words in Russian and work with special dictionaries (orthoepic dictionaries od Russian).
Learning outcomes
Students:
- have an overview of the phonetic system of Russian,
- know the differences between Czech and Russian speech sounds (acoustic and articulation),
- can speak correctly all Russian speech sounds,
- know phonetic transcription,
- understand basic phonetic terms and can explain them on specific examples.
Syllabus
  • 1.-2. Pronunciation practice of Russian paired soft consonants.
  • 3.-4. Pronunciation practice of Russian unpaired hard consonants and unpaired soft consonants.
  • 5.-6. Pronunciation of borrowed words in Russian, impact of foreign languages on pronunciation of borrowed words in Russian.
  • 7. Russian polysyllabic words, primary and secondary stress.
  • 8.-9. Errors in Russian pronunciation typical of Czech speakers. Analysis of these errors. Correction of these errors.
  • 10. Work with special dictionaries of Russian - Russian orthoepic dictionaries, dictionaries of the Russian stress.
  • 11.-12. Intonation of Russian in comparison to Czech.

Teaching methods
Practical seminars.
Assessment methods
The colloquium is based on correct reading of Russian text. Correct reading means compliance with current standards of the Russian language, e. g. the difference between hard and soft consonants, stressed and unstressed vowels.
During semester prepares every student a project that is devoted to pronunciation of Russian sounds (1-2 sounds of your choice) and will introduce it in the seminar.
For admission to the colloquium requires attendance, project (see above) and homework.
