Course objectives
The main objective of the course is to expand knowledge and skills in consulting (based on current legislation and contemporary counselling services), diagnostics (psychological and special-pedagogical) in the various stages of an individual's life, and interventions aimed at decreasing, elimination or compensation of difficulties related to specific learning disabilites.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to: define terminology related to specific learning disorders; to describe the manifestations of types of specific learning disorders and their influence on the students education; to describe the influence of specific learning disabilities on individual personality development; to be oriented in the diagnostics of the specific learning disabilities and diagnostic tools; define pedagogical-psychological counselling services for students with specific learning disabilities; describe the services provided to students with specific learning disabilities by the school counselling centre and cooperation in a multidisciplinary team at school; propose appropriate supportive measures relating to the general conditions for the education of students with specific learning disabilities in common classes; design appropriate procedures in remediation care of students with specific learning disabilities
Syllabus
  • The consultancy area will be focused on: providing consulting in schools and school consulting facilities according to the contemporary legislation; counseling facilities and provided services for individuals with specific learning disabilities and behavior. Area of diagnostics will be focused on: diagnosis of weakened sensory and neurological functions of preschool children; diagnosis of specific learning disabilities of elementary school students; diagnosis and counseling services for adults; diagnostic criteria focused on behavioral disorders (especially minimal brain dysfunction, ADHD and ADD). The area of intervention will be focused on: preventive programs (depending on the developmental stages); alternative methods used in individuals with specific learning disabilities and behavior; remediation care and compensatory aids.

Assessment methods
For successful completion following requirements are set: 1. Annotation of publication concerning topic from course syllabus. 2. Exam - Written test. Student needs 70 % of correct answer to pass. 3. Active participation on lectures and at least 80 % attendance
