Course objectives
The most important objective of the course is to present a comprehensive body of knowledge and skills concerning the provision of basic treatment and first aid in case of acute as well as chronic diseases and accidents. The aim of the course is to train students in first aid both in terms of theory and practice and be able to didactically transform it into teaching at elementary school. A significant aspect of teaching first aid is the application of experiential education.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course the students will:
Have theoretical and practical knowledge of first aid,
Be able to react in an emergency situation,
Be able to provide adequate first aid,
Take care of own safety and be aware of the risks associated with providing first aid
Be able anchor the topic of first aid according to the curriculum.
Syllabus
  • Content of seminars:
  • 1. Preventive health care, safe behaviour in various life situations and various means of transport, including emergency situations that threaten the health of individuals and entire populations; personal safety of students – behaviour to one another, health risks during games and extracurricular activities;
  • 2. First aid: types of medical first aid; basic types of medical classification; injury prevention (during sports and hobbies, during transport and in the field, age-specific features);
  • 3 Unconsciousness and resuscitation;
  • 4. Aspiration of a foreign object;
  • 5. Non-injury emergencies;
  • 6. External bleeding, blood loss, internal bleeding;
  • 7. Poisoning and acid burning;
  • 8. Thermal injury;
  • 9. Injury of the locomotor system, spinal column injury;
  • 10. Fundamentals of medical records, rights and responsibilities of health professionals;
  • 11. Public health protection, basics of hygienic and anti-epidemic measures;
  • 12. Basics of psychological first aid, coping with mass hysteria.
  • Content of seminars:
  • 1. – 3. Training of first aid – summary;
  • 4. Portals aimed at teaching first aid;
  • 5. Analysis of the traumatology plan for elementary schools;
  • 6. Excursion to the Ictal Centre (St. Anne’s University Hospital);
  • 7. Excursion to the Emergency Centre of the South Moravian Region;
  • 8. – 12. Didactic transformation of the learning content.
