- Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is only offered to the students of the study fields the course is directly associated with.
- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- Natural Science for Education (programme PdF, B-PR3S) (2)
- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students should be able to understand and explain (1) basic knowledge about problematics of general zoology; (2) structure and funtion of the animal cell; (3) recognize particular characteristic tissues and organs; (4) demonstrate acquirement of skills necessary during work with microscope; (5) skills necessary for drawing record; (6) creating generally positive attempt to autopsy studies is very important too.

- Syllabus
- Lecture syllabus: 1. Introduction to histology: animal cells and tissues (division), histogenesis and intercellular matter: fibrillar (collagen, reticular and elastic fibers) and amorphous (glycosaminoglycans). 2. Epithelia 1: flat, squamous; cubic, cylindrical; single-layer, multi-layer, transitional 3. Epithelia 2: covering (keratinized stratified epithelium, non-keratinized stratified epithelium), resorptive, ciliated, sensory, glandular, germinal (ovaries and testes), pigmented. 4. Connective tissue: germinal mesenchyme, vesicular connective tissue, gelatinous connective tissue, thin collagenous tissue, adipose tissue, dense disordered tissue = stiff collagenous tissue, dense ordered tissue; 5. Cartilage: praecartilago, parenchymal cartilage, hyaline cartilage, elastic cartilage, fibrous (= fibrous, fibrillar) cartilage. 6. Bone and dental tissues: fibrous (felt) bone, lamellar bone (compact x spongy), ossification, dental tissues. 7. Trophic binders: blood and hematopoiesis, lymph, hemolymph, tissue fluid. 8. Muscle tissues: smooth, striated muscle and myocardium (heart muscle). 9. Nervous tissues: gray cerebral cortex (pyramidal and glial cells with projections), gray matter of the cerebellum (unipolar neurons), white matter of the cerebellum (macroglia - astrocytes), peripheral nerves (myelin and Schwann sheath). 10. Asexual and sexual reproduction, ontogeny of (multicellular) animals (Animalia) - emergence, development and growth of an individual, regeneration, aging, death. 11. Embryology (ontogenesis of multicellular animals) 1: embryogenesis: progenesis, blastogenesis, notogenesis; gastrulation, neurulation. Exercise syllabus: 1. Observation and drawing of free animal cells, especially vertebrate erythrocytes – permanent preparations of blood smears 2. Observation and drawing of permanent and native preparations - different shape of cells and cell inclusions 3. Observation and drawing of permanent preparations - types of epithelia according to the shape of epithelial cells 4. Observation and drawing of permanent preparations - types of epithelia according to the number of layers of epithelial cells 5. Observation and drawing of permanent preparations - types of epithelia according to function 6. Observation and drawing of permanent preparations of filling binders - ligaments 7. Observation and drawing of permanent preparations of supporting connectives - cartilage 8. Observation and drawing of (permanent) preparations of bone tissues 9. Observation and drawing of permanent preparations of human leukocytes – blood smears 10. Preparation, observation and drawing of native and permanent preparations of muscle tissues 11. Observation and drawing of permanent preparations of nervous tissues

- Teaching methods
- Lectures - PPT presentation Laboratory practices - students alone under supervision of tutor observe and draw available permanent microscopical preparations.
- Assessment methods
- Requirements for credit: active participation on practices (every absence is required to be compensated), final presentation of completed exercise book or set of documents with work sheets, original drawings and successful passing of practical identification examination (students will be able, from photographs of observed microscopical preparations, to identify, which kinds of tissues they represent).Furthermore, the prerequisite for successful completion of the colloquium will be a paper and an oral examination on the material in the range corresponding to the syllabus of the lectures. The requirements to complete the course if the student is on mobility abroad and is recognized by ISP are the same. The exercises can be completed according to the drawings, the lecture can be studied.
