Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with a specific area of education of pupils with different mother tongue (OMJ), to introduce the basic principles of verbal and nonverbal communication with pupils with OMJ, his position in Czech society and the Czech education system, as well as the most important principles of linguistic and cultural education. heterogeneous collectives. Special attention will be paid to the language education of pupils with OMJ (beyond the framework of school teaching of the Czech language and language courses), including the mediation of other study materials and relevant resources, including modern technologies usable in online teaching. Emphasis will be placed primarily on promoting a safe environment and the integration of individuals with a different mother tongue into society.
Learning outcomes
The course is designed especially for current and future teachers, as well as others interested in the issue. Teaching is designed interdisciplinary; combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience. At the end of the course the student will be able to: - characterize the position of OMJ pupils in the Czech educational system, including possible problematic places - communicate effectively with pupils and OMJ (including their legal representatives) - to orientate in basic didactic methods applied in the education of pupils with OMJ and to use them in contact with these pupils - understand and use in their practice specific language skills in the education of pupils with OMJ
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to the issue; basic concepts (foreign pupil, pupil with a foreign language, Czech as a foreign/second language, bilingualism, etc.); 2. Communication with a foreigner; verbal and non-verbal communication with a foreigner; instruction; 3. Pupils with foreign language in the Czech education system; important actors in the education of pupils with foreign language; 4. Didactics of language - Slav x non-Slav, child x adult; 5. Teaching in heterogeneous classrooms; activating methods applicable in teaching pupils with MSM; 6. Alternative methods of teaching foreigners; online teaching of pupils with  OMJ; 7. Integration of foreigners (in the context of the IC JMK); NIP and other organizations for helping foreigners; promotion of a safe environment; 8. Testing and assessment; 9. Textbooks and other resources for teaching pupils with MSM; adaptation of texts; 10. Use of modern technologies; applications in teaching OMJ; 11. Diagnosis of pupils with OMJ; testing of individuals with OMJ; 12. Workshop with an expert from cooperating organizations and institutions.

Teaching methods
Seminar connecting interpretation with practical training of discussed phenomena; discussion on individual topics. The course will use an interactive syllabus in IS.
Assessment methods
Successful completion of the course requires: 1. successful completion of a written test covering the topics taught; 2. a colloquial debate on the assigned topic. Updated requirements are published in each semester that the course is taught in the Course Materials in IS, Learning Materials folder.
