Course objectives
The main objective of the course is to develop speaking, reading, writing and listening skills at the Upper-Intermediate Level. The basic study material is the coursebook New English File UPPER - Intermediate supplemented by various additional materials. At the end of the course students should be able to: discuss everyday topics, communicate in everyday situations, read and listen to authentic texts at the Upper-Intermediate Level and communicate in the language fluently.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course the students will: - develop speaking, reading, writing and listening skills at the Intermediate Level (B1 according to CEFR);
- be able to: discuss everyday topics, communicate in everyday situations, read and listen to authentic texts at the Intermediate Level and communicate in the language fluently.
Syllabus
  • The basic study material is the coursebook New English File UPPER -INTERMEDIATE (Student's book and Workbook), see Literature bellow. The syllabus includes Units 3 - 4, the focus is on speaking and listening activities and development of students' vocabulary.

Assessment methods
Requirements: Maximum number of points per semester: 200 Pass mark: 140 (part of this sum is also the final written test, students must obtain at least 70% for this final test - if not: two resits of the final test are offered)

Written test: 80 points

Oral test: 60 points (students gather points that are added to the total sum of points, oral tests do not have resits)

Placement test: 10 points

Progress test: 10 points. Other types of continuous assessment: 40 points
