Course objectives
Translation from English of parts of work or articles of great philosophers (contemporary or past) and following discussions about translated texts.
Syllabus
  • The main principles of the art of transtation. The general properties of languages - holistic and reductionistic features - which influence our view on the art of translation. Notions of exactitude and intelligibility of the language. Students can choose folloving topics: theory of truth (Donald Davidson, Keith Lehrer,..), philosophical and linguistic holism (Davidson, Robert Brandom, W.V.Quine), philosophy of mathematics (B.Russell, P. Benacerraf, ..). There is possibility to choose some actual topics or such a topic students are interested in at that time.

Assessment methods (in Czech)
Zápočet se uděluje za seminární práci, která musí mít jednu z následujících charakteristik: - překlad části textu nebo článku úměrného rozsahu z angličtiny do češtiny, - esej o problému, jež se vztahuje ke studovanému anglickému textu (pro studenty méně pokročilé v překládání nebo pro ty, kteří se primárně zajímají o určitý filosofický problém).
