- Course objectives
- Language Acquisition is a relatively new field of study which seeks to understand the processes of learning a native (FLA - First Language Acquisition) or a second language (SLA - Second Language Acquisition). An understanding of second language acquisition is extremely useful for language teachers as it can help them develop appropriate instructional strategies. The seminar focuses on the key concepts of SLA and their application in the language classroom. Moreover, a number of recent ELT methods and approaches are presented and discussed.

- 1. Introduction, aims and objectives, basic terminology. 2. Factors influencing language acquisition. 3. Stephen Krashen and his language acquisition model. 4. Language acquisition and age: Quantitative research presentation. 5. Bilingualism: Qualitative research (case study) presentation. 6. Learning styles and Multiple Intelligences. 7. Learning strategies. Learner training. 8. Traditional methods of ELT: Grammar-Translation Method, Direct Method. 9. Traditional methods of ELT: Audio-Lingual Method. 10. Humanistic approaches: Total Physical Response, Suggestopedia. 11. Communicative Approach and Post-Method Era.
