- For future (or current) teachers of English only. Block I will take place on December 7. Block II will take place in January or February 2008, the date will be negotiated in December. A credit will be given for 100% attendance.

- Course objectives
- The course will explore basic books of children's and juvenile literature which may be used in teaching.
- Syllabus
- Block I, December 7, 2007 Theme one: why teaching literature; the position of children's and popular literatures in the book market; reading and Czech children (a 2003 sociological research, an analysis); the possibilities of book market(publishers, promotion, buying); institutions and charts (IBBY and its Czech section); magazines, libraries, internet sources; how to built a school library Theme two: the theory of oral and popular literatures; nursery rhymes, songs, literary and folk tales, fairy tales, fantasy. Block II, 2008 Theme one: literature and adventure, literature and mystery (a group of children, deserted island, detective stories) Theme two: urban legends Theme three: comics and graphic novels, manga, (dis)advantages of the internet.

- 100& attendance Bring a choice of your own books according to the topic for block II.
