- Course objectives
- The goal of the subject is to get acquainted with basic concepts and theories of general psychology and psychology of personality and with the evolution of them. The subject studies should present the relations of psychology to other socially-scientific and natural-scientific branches, and the exploitation of the psychological knowledge in present sciences on man and social practice. A successful passing of this block is a prerequisite for further studies of other psychological disciplines. At the end of the course the student will be able to read common psychological text for teachers and to understand them creatively. The student should also be able to differentiate the positives of academic psychology from general popular psychological findings.

- Subject matter of psychology and its evolution. Biological conditionality of psyche. Psyche. Social and cultural conditionality of psyche. Consciousness. Associanism. Psychophysics and experimental psychology. Geštalt-psychology. VNČ physiology. Behaviourism. Humanistic psychology. Cognitive psychology. Transpersonal psychology. Personality – concept, definition, structure and dynamics. Factor and typological systems. Motivation, needs, interests, values. Capabilities, intelligence. Creativity. Character, volition, decision making, stress, resistance to heavy-load situations. Emotions, temperament. Attention, memory, learning. Cognitive processes: sensation, perception, imagination, fantasy. Thinking and speech. How to exploit the knowledge of psychology. How to succeed in studies.
