Cíle předmětu
This course is dedicated to assisting students become more proficient at delivering a presentation in an academic environment. By the end of the course, students will have increased their knowledge of how to deliver an effective presentation. This knowledge will also incorporate skills at evaluating their own and other people's presentations.
Osnova
  • This course will meet in person twice during the semester (at the beginning and end) for 6 hour blocks. The first block will be dedicated to discussing what makes presentations effective, seeing some examples of presentations, developing an evaluation rubric, and creating and delivering presentations in groups.
  • Over the course of the semester, the online classroom will be used to develop individual presentations.
  • At the end of the semester, in the second block, there will be individual presentations. This will be an opportunity both for practice at delivery skills and at developing evaluation skills.

Výukové metody
This course will meet in person twice during the semester (at the beginning and end) for 6 hour blocks. The first class will involve class discussions to agree as a class on what is important when giving a presentation. A rubric will be established for evaluation as a class. Students will then have an opportunity to practice giving presentations as a group project, as well as the opportunity to practice evaluating based on the rubric created.
The online course will use discussions and assignments to support students in creating their own work. Peer review will be used for feedback.
The final class will involve the students implementing all that they have learned in their own individual presentation. They will also have the opportunity to practice evaluating and get feedback from their peers.
Metody hodnocení
This course is is a seminar, so attendance is required. In order to successfully finish the course, students must attend all classes, actively participate in discussions and evaluations, and deliver both a group presentation and an individual one.
