Course objectives
At the end of this course, students should be able: to understand the structure of clauses and sentences biased on the relation of syntax and morphology; to demonstrate procedures used in syntax analysis; define types of sentences; to reproduce sentence parts and word order; to analyse typology of utterance.
Syllabus
  • Analysis of concepts: "phrase", "énoncé", "énonciation". Procedures used in syntax analysis – substitution, commutation. Types and modality of a simple sentence. Types of sentences from the view of sentence position – juxtaposition, co-ordination, subordination, correlation. Sentence parts. French word order – inversion, dislocation"détachement", "mise en relief". Analysis and typology of utterance, functional sentence perspective.
