Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able: aquire basic concepts, methods and rules of literary criticism and textology. Students write their own mock review and use the method of critical reading to assess reviews in daily press as well as professinal journals. They will be able to analyse and interpret a literary text using the form of a review and a literary-critical study.

  • 1. Textual and artistic critique. 2. Types, methods and functions of artistic critique. 3. Structure and building segments of review. 4. Basic concepts and rules of literary criticism. 5. Analysis of reviews in daily press and professinal journals. 6. Personalities of Czech literary critique. 7. Valuation of critical production of course participants. 8. Methods of textology.

Teaching methods
Form of course: seminar. Students will further develop their literary knowledge and interpretational skills with the aim to communicate with a literary work more efficiently. They will creatively use their knowledge gained not only in contact classes but also in their individual study of recommended literature which they will be able to discuss regularly with their teacher.
Assessment methods
Type of completion: credit Credit requirements: successful writing of a mock review (handed in on deadline). Detailed information concerning the structure of the mock review will be provided by the teacher during the first tutorial.
