Course objectives
The subject provides some additional information on linguistics, linguistic subjects and linguistic bohemistics. It provides to the students knowledge of the fundamental linguistics subjects and the terminology (phonetics and orthography, morphology, syntax, lexicology and word-formation and word-building) and pieces of knowledge on special fields (stylistics, dialectology, etymology, onomastics) and on the linguistic and language handbooks and journals, too.
It is pressupossed that student is able after ending the course:
1. To distinguish and describe the linguistic handbook and to use them;
2. To distinguish linguistic disciplines and to explain relationships among them;
3. To explain the grammar cathegories and other linguistic terms (phone, phonem, word, word cathegories, sentence, compound and combined sentence...).
Syllabus
  • 1. Language and linguistics.
  • 2. The structure of the language. Language levels and language elements (phoneme, morpheme,lexical units, sentence, clause).
  • 3. Phonetics and phonology. Orthography. Sound- and graphical phenomena of language.
  • 4. Morphology and syntax. Grammatical categories. Grammatical concepts.
  • 5. lexicology. Vocabulary. Words, multiverbal units, phrases.
  • 6. Word-formation. Terminology.
  • 7. Stylistics. Functional styles, style procedures of forming texts.
  • 8. Linguistics journal. Linguistic handbooks (dictionaries, grammars).

Assessment methods
Credit requirements: The student shall make out knowledge of the themen of the lecture: he/she shall write a short composition (minimum: 2 pages A4) = reflexion of some thema of the lecture.
