- Course objectives
- The main objective of the course is to present a survey of Czech dialects. The origination of dialect differences is explained on the basis of historical development processes, phonology and lexicology being the main highlights. The attendees will be given the thorough information on typical features of individual dialects and inter-dialects. A brief description of social dialects will be available as well.
- Syllabus
- 1. Structural and non-structural Czech language formations. 2. Dialects; terminology of dialects; special linguistic literature. 3. Causes for geographical and social diferentiation of Czech language into dialects. 4. The boundary (isogloses) of the dialects. 5. Methods of treating dialects, mainly dictionary and atlas. 6. The purposes of the dialectology; dialectology and Czech language teaching.
